RPC Chapter 2

In An Argument for Being a Poser, Armstrong says it should be okay to like subcultures and find out what each is about for oneself. When learning about all these different groups, one begins to figure out who they are and what they really like. This is big with teenagers because a lot of them do not understand who they are and there has to be some way of experimentation to find out. Latinos in the genre of rap are using the N word in their music because that word is very popular in rap. The author of The N-Word Is Flourishing among Generation Hip-Hop Latinos, writes how many native Latinos have African roots as well. Countries like the Dominican Republic, Cuba, and Martinique have many citizens a part of the African diaspora, explaining the use of the N word in Latin rap. The End of White America is about how minorities will eventually become the majority in America because so many immigrants are coming in and watering down the white statistic. In the WWII era many of the immigrants were forced to assimilate with the rest of the Americans, so the white people wouldn't feel threatened by the newcomers. Now the people that come here aren't required to blend in with white America, they are encouraged to continue their practices and beliefs when they arrive. The Sports Taboo covers whites and blacks in sports along with how the experiences are different. Gladwell, the author, states that it is in African genetics to be naturally athletic and they usually rely on their natural talents to carry them, while white athletes rely on their effort. Though many black athletes are talented naturally, that does not mean the black athlete don't do their best to perform at their best. Women and the Rise of Raunch Culture is about feminism not being fully achieved in America. Those that believe inequality is over are usually men, as stated in the passage, and women today are doing what they can to reach equality. Women dress showing more skin in casual clothes today than ever before, and this is mostly because they feel like expressing themselves however they please. Since it is a fact that everybody is the decider of what they want to do with their body, some are choosing to dress outside of the norm and take control on their own. And lastly, in Pop Culture's Transgender Moment, the author talks about the lack of transgender representation on television series. Transgender's have been shown on TV, but only given small parts. There haven't really been characters with full on backgrounds yet, but on Netflix and Amazon Prime, there have been shows that do have transgender characters with their stories. The author questions if transgenders will be given their chance on TV with major or leading roles like how it's been done on the web services.
